Jessica Kelly has been named vice president of marketing and public relations for film distributor Camelot Distribution Group.

Previously Kelly was director of marketing at the Universal City, Calif.-based company, a role she’d held since joining Camelot Distribution Group in October 2009.

“She brings over eleven years experience in all facets of entertainment marketing and publicity for all major mediums; film, radio and television. We look forward to her continuing the outstanding work she has already done for the Camelot family,” President Jamie Thompson said in a company release.

As VP of marketing and public relations for the company, Kelly is responsible for leading marketing campaigns for the sale and distribution of in-house productions and acquired projects, as well as several other duties.

Camelot Distribution Group is a segment of Camelot Entertainment Group Inc. In addition to the distribution group, CEG has two other divisions: Camelot Studio Group and Camelot Production Services Group. Films in the company’s portfolio include “The Fallen,” “The Wiffler,” “Samurai Avenger: Blind Wolf” and others.

Speaking with DailyVista, Kelly provided further information on her priorities in her new role at Camelot Distribution Group.

Kelly said that her new position’s priorities are two-fold. First, she aims to help the company rise “to the next level” by gaining global recognition and exposure. Secondly, Kelly said her goal is to prepare and properly represent and market the company’s upcoming slate of films.

“I just worked with a new design studio to create a new logo and look for the company, that we are all very impressed with. With our first EFM (European Film Market) in Berlin and Cannes fast approaching, we have to make sure that we come out of the gates with a strong image and competitive slate of films,” she said.

According to Kelly, day-to-day duties in this new role include overseeing the press releases being written for and distributed by the company, as well as writing newsletters, screening films and preparing strategic marketing plans for the company’s films.

Additionally, Kelly works with designers and trailer cutters to properly position a film and its plot, and she is in charge of the Web site for films as well.

“I also work very closely with the president to assist with internal operations,” Kelly said.

Camelot Films works with design companies including KO Creative and Designworks, as well as independent designers and trailer cutters.

“We hired (Los Angeles-based) Insignia PR to handle our publicity, and some things are done in- house,” Kelly said. “It really depends on what is needed and the time frame.”

Kelly said that her biggest challenge in her new role is getting the Camelot Distribution Group global name recognition.

“Film sales and distribution is a tough industry. When starting a new division, buyers may know one for years, but are skeptical because of a new name,” she said. “It’s my job to make sure that our name is attached to well-perceived brands.”

On the other side, Kelly said that Camelot Distribution Group also sees opportunities to grow quickly.

“We are young, but we have ambition. There are so many opportunities for this company and division,” she said.
