Cannes 2012: Splendid Scores ‘Ten,’ Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger

The European distributor’s buying spree also includes Joe Hahn’s “Mall,” Robert Rodriguez’s “Machete Kills” and “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.”

COLOGNE, Germany – German-based distributor Splendid stocked up on mainstream action at this year’s Cannes Marche du Film, taking all rights in German-speaking Europe and Benelux for Ten, the new thriller from Street Kings director David Ayer starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Joe Roth is one of the producers of Ten, which Open Road has picked up for a U.S. release.

Ayer, whose credits also include the screenplay for Oscar-winning Training Day, recently wrapped production on the cop drama End of Watch starring Jake Gyllenhaal.

Splendid also nabbed rights in German-speaking Europe and Benelux for Mall, the directorial debut of Linkin Park bandmember Joe Hahn. The thriller focuses on five strangers who get caught up in a shooting spree at a suburban mall. Vincent D’Onofrio and Peter Stormare star.

Other Splendid buys included animated feature Ribbit; the martial arts actioner Wudang from Transporter director Corey Yuen; the Spanish horror film Afterparty from Miguel Larraya; and sci-fi feature Scavengers starring Sean Patrick Flanery (Saw 3D).

In a seperate deal for Belenux only, Splendid took rights to two Robert Rodriguez films: Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and Machete Kills.
